Looking for a second chance...

Life is kinda bizarre at the moment - I hope I will get to look back and remember these times fondly. So, tomorrow I'm off to San Clemente to write with Kelli.  We're gonna block out 4 hours and try to write a song, it's something we've been doing on and off now for 8 years and is absolutely one of my favorite things on the planet to do.  It reminds me of surfing - I love watching surfers: I love the intent they have as they walk to the beach, I love how they are focused on nothing else but what the Water is doing - as children, our parents would drive us to the coast, and on seeing the first blue/green hue on the horizon we would break out into spontaneous singing of "I can see the Sea, I can see the Sea, I can See the Sea,..." and even though I can't see it - I love the expression on a surfer's face just after catching a good ride.  Songwriting is creating time for something magical to happen.

The second chance of the title refers to a course of action that was offered to a number of musicians by Derek Sivers.  I ducked it - this was a dumb thing to do.

Nuno Lupi - "Ballerina"

Another musician Last.fm lists as similar to music2work2 is Nuno Lupi. His music is piano driven and is quite lovely.

My favorite piece of his is “Ballerina.” The tempo is fast and the melody is rhythmic and beautiful.

I suppose because of my love and appreciation of nature, when I listen to music, the images that are evoked for me are often nature-related. Listening to “Ballerina” the image that comes to mind is of the ocean. I can visualize the constant movement of the waves breaking on the shore, and the water more slowly and silently returning back to the sea. This image is evoked from the periods of hesitancy in the music followed by the piano runs.

I find this an uplifting piece of music; there is a sense of hopefulness about it. Due to it’s title, I doubt that Nuno Lupi had this same sort of image in mind while composing this piece. But, that is the wonderful thing about music. It can be heard differently at different times and by different people.

This piece reminds me of music2work2's session 1218. There are similarities between the music of Nuno Lupi and music2work2; Last.fm was right. You might want to check them out and see if you think so.

iTunes Radio

 - is brilliant.  My old computer crashed over the weekend and my entire iTunes library is currently unavailable.  While I'm busy working out how to get everything off my iPod into the new iTunes (thanks Neil and Michele) I'm listening to some great "music2work2" - namely Beach House Radio - perfect for what I'm doing.  I love how necessity breeds serendipity.  I'm also trying out a new blog interface - Scribefire - digging it so far.
