Sweetly Alone by Rafael Zacher

One good thing about being involved in different music websites is the new musicians and music you discover. I came across the music of Rafael Zacher, from Barcelona, on Reverbnation. There is one of his songs in particular that I really like, "Sweetly Alone;" the tune kept playing over and over in my head. "Sweetly Alone" is a piano piece. It has a lovely melody and combines sections of fast, lively tempo with slow, more solemn sounding ones. Listening to this song, I think about the title the musician has chosen for it and how, to me, the music so accurately "describes" the state of being alone. Being alone can be "sweet," a time for quiet reflection, a time of doing what you want to do without the need to consider the desires of someone else. But, it can also be a sad, solemn time, when you ache for the presence of another human being with whom to share the moment.

I don't know that this is what Rafael Zacher had in mind with this piece. But, I think it is an enjoyable song to listen to, and the catchy melody is definitely one that stays with me.

Getting back into the groove

My hand is feeling quite a lot better, so I'm finally able to get back to doing some work for music2work2. At the moment I am focusing on getting our music up on as many music web sites as possible.  It is good to see the names of some artists who are already friends through MySpace and some other sites, but it is also good to discover new music and artists.

I have listened to a lot of music on ReverbNation.  I have also put together a Chill Playlist of music similar to that of music2work2.  Check it out; I think it is made up of some really beautiful music - - the violin of Xenia, the flute of Rachels-Music.com, the piano of ColdfusionDK, Yann Tiersen and, of course, music2work2.

Weezer and the Lady on the train...

Music's freaking awesome. I met a lady on a train - we were both delayed and inconvenienced so we talked about music. We swapped likes and I referenced Weezer's hit "Beverley Hills" - to which she demurred as not really representative, I was intrigued.

I had got the irony of the video when it came out, although I hadn't really listened to their music prior to that- I had it in the same category as Eels - cool hipster music (listen to Beautiful Freak)- and I dug them 'cos I like cool hipster music - that and the name Rivers Cuomo stuck in my head.

I'd made a mental note to check them out - and then life got busy - until RockBand appeared in the house. Rock Band Video Game

If you're a music fan - which I'm guessing is likely if you're reading this - try it - just try it, I think it's brilliant fun. We had Kelli on the guitar this afternoon and me on vocals as we attacked Nirvana's Bloom -

..and then you play "Say It Ain't So" - and they have a crowd track. Yeah it's true - when things are going well - the bloody crowd starts singing - and you just gotta wonder what a Weezer gig feels like? The killer for me of course is that I now have my 10 and 11 year old step children accusing me of wanting to drown them.

I have subsequently purchased the track - and I'm going to listen to their new album - and their old stuff too - http://www.weezer.com/ I'm pretty stoked about that and looking forward to it.

So, Lady on the train - thank you - I hope you're well and I hope that you dig Weezer's new material - that would be very cool indeed. I love this video: [display_podcast]
