The Duel 2008

The title "The Duel" might lead one to think of a battle, with booming sounds, harsh melody and solemn mood. But, in this case, that is not what the title represents at all.

This is a piano driven session with two additional voices, strings and organ. The tempo varies through the piece, along with changes in the dominant voice. The mood varies from slightly serious to upbeat and hopeful.

The image that comes to my mind when listening to this session, is not one of a struggle with changes and differences, but merely the co-existence of different feelings, attitudes, etc.Life is a mixture of joy and sadness, good health and sickness, darkness and light, times of difficulty and times of ease, times of prosperity and times of need. But, entwined with it all, is hopefulness.

Below is a short clip from The Duel.Listening to this session, an entirely different image may be evoked in you. That is one of the marvelous things about music – it can be listened to in different ways, different settings, intently or in the background. The images, feelings, memories that music evokes is different in each person.

Check out the Music2Work2 website for the composer’s thoughts on The Duel and additional information as to how you can experience the complete session.

Learning new tricks

They say, "you can't teach an old dog new tricks." This "old dog" has learned an amazing amount of new "tricks" over the past couple of years, working with music2work2. I have been introduced to websites, technical applications, things I had no idea were even possible to do on a computer! It has been hard - often harder on the teacher than the student - but it has been interesting and fun. Some things I have caught onto pretty easily; others I still can't do without being reminded how to do them. We are making some wonderful and exciting changes on the music2work2 website. It is going to be terrific when all the changes are complete. I'm really excited to see how it all will look. I hope I can continue to learn the new "tricks," in spite of the sentiment expressed in the above saying.

Nothing happens fast........but it happens!

You will notice some more changes on the music2work2 website. There is now music to hear on the front page and players are being added to each session page.

I really like the way Andrew is now explaining his reasoning, his thought process in composing some of the music, such as the National Identity Card. I think you will find more of that with the newer sessions and the posting of the steps of their development.

Things are falling into place as we have planned. Nothing ever happens quite as fast as we would like, but things are happening………….and we are very excited about that.
