Paul - 13 minutes 23 seconds

Strings and Piano - written for Paul.

$1.99 - Download Now

It’s a crazy information overload world – especially for those of us who live in front a screen. Where do you start: email, internet, tweetdeck, rss feed, facebook or the word document and spreadsheet that you’re supposed to be working on – the telephone rings, a colleague appears – the distractions are endless and procrastination could now be an Olympic sport.

I find that the right kind of music can be critical to me actually starting something and this piece is one of my favorites for that. It starts out so simple and clean, delicate piano, aching string melody – it actually calms me down and helps me decide where I want to focus. But there’s a change at around 10:00 minutes, the energy of the piece just picks up and whether I like it or not, I start typing – it’s great! If I’m lucky, the next time I look up is when the piece is nearing the end.

Written for Paul Ruffin, owner of ECI Networks, a fabulous bass player and all round good guy.

Travis, Ode to J. Smith

So it's Saturday and I'm sitting here putting the correct meta-data on all the free 5 minute samples at music2work2.com - should have done this a while ago - you can stream the track, download the sample and you don't even need to register! Anyway - while I'm doing this I'm listening to Travis' new album Ode to J. Smith streaming at Spin.com, I'm on my second listen and it's pretty damn cool.  My sister introduced me to Travis and I fell in love with their album The Man Who - they're almost, but not entirely unlike if you took say - Radiohead, Oasis, Weezer and perhaps Nickel Creek -  mixed them around and then gave whatever came out a big bowl of something.

You can check out the Travis' official site here - I just went looking for the album on Amazon - it isn't there - bummer.  Interestingly enough the album image on the front page is a link to the itunes store - and I can't see any other way of buying the album - you know - if they'd had a little widget that I could have put in this post with a listen and a purchase link - then I would have!

Oh and thanks to @tindle for getting me to blog this.

Twitter and the LoveDAQ

In time for Valentine's day, here's an explanation of what Twitter is, what it does for you, how you do it and what you might get from it. Twitter is

A thing that takes you from one place to another, in this case, from the land of "where you currently are" - to the land of "I know Kung Fu!"

Twitter gives you:

The ability to learn from people you would never normally meet.

How do you twitter?

In order to Twitter - you have to buy into the concept of:

"You only get what you give"

Once you have that down - it's easy. When you're at your computer, or you have your cellphone on you - write what it is you are doing. It doesn't make any sense until you start, but if you truly believe that you get back what you give, you'll do fine. Don't worry about what you write, how you write it, what you write it with or where you write from - just write. If you continue doing it, you'll get better at it - just like learning how to read when you were a child or like learning how to walk, even if your legs are a bit wobbly! There are many tools that make it easier to do like: Flock - it's a browser with Twitter built in - I'm blogging with Flock right now Foxytunes - my favorite tool - one click and you're away - highly recommended for Music types.

What's in it for you?

Information in bite-size, easily digestible chunks. Not just the usual suspects either, but cool things like missrougue's original post. I wonder what the world would be like with a LoveDAQ - I don't know - it feels a bit wrong to me - but then I'm a hopeless romantic.
