MOP - Opening Theme Developmment

Was playing with this over the weekend as I had been struggling to dial in the string parts for the opening 1/3rd of the piece. With the piano track dialed in it’s a lot easier to break the sections down and work on them individually.

I went back and listened to the melody from the inspiration piece and realized that it would work just as well at this slower tempo. This mix is pretty grim and the parts aren’t quite there but I know where this is going now.

While Mike continues with the mix on About the Money – I will be focusing on the completion of MOP.

The image - Planet Rise - is another painting from Sami that will be used at the end of the film when the two lovers ascend into space – I think it is stunning – you can see the full image by clicking on it.

Moments of Perfection - Piano Track Final

So after a few months of dialing it in – here is the underlying piano track to Moments of Perfection. We tracked this last night and I think it’s sounding pretty good.

It’s taken about a month to really develop the part and tighten up the themes and transitions but I really like where it has ended up. The next few weeks will see me working on the string parts and hopefully aim to have a finished piece by the end of October – although I’m guessing we’ll probably end up in November.

From Perfection to Frustration

The nice thing about developing themes for movies is that if they don’t end up in the movie, they still get published as music2work2; this is one such piece.

I’ve been developing this piece as an introduction to a more established theme for Moments of Perfection – it’s supposed to be the beginning of the lovemaking – but SAmi’s absolutely right – it sounds waaay more ominious than it should. Unless of course he was animating praying mantis sex!

However, I do love the tension and how the strings are working together – so I’m taking the idea and incorporating it into the new Frustration II theme. I’m writing for 4 different voices now: Piano, Violin, Viola and Cello – new rig, new tones – scary but exciting all at the same time. We’ll post some more frustration next week!
