131 Beats Per Minute

131 Beats Per Minute

Created from three tracks published in early 2014, this is a very chilled out solo piano piece that sits slightly above resting heart rate.  Released as a complete piece of music in September 2014, the track is ideal for creating a calming and restful environment.

I Don't Know - 131 Beats Per Minute

I Don't Know - 131 Beats Per Minute

The final track in the 131 beats per minute playlist.  I like this one as it has a blues development slapped right in the middle of the track - I've been meaning to do that for a while.

While the previous tracks in the playlist were very calm and reassuring - I knew that I wanted more energy in this one.  While it starts and ends with a mellow feel, it's all about the blues scale in the middle.

There's a certain chugging nature to the way the left hand sets up the 12 bar shape and it's that driving energy that I often need when I'm hacking through something.  The trick is to make the right hand interesting but not overbearing while the left hand provides the energy without becoming monotonous.

I really like the ending too -  it makes me go back and immediately start the track again.  Listening to this on a loop is great when you want to stay focused an "in" for an hour or so.

Oh and there's a lot of Fibonacci references in the visual for those of you out there who dig that sort of stuff - I do! ;-p

Music to Descend in an Airplane to - 131 Beats Per Minute

Music to Descend in an Airplane to - 131 Beats Per Minute

So Terry drops me an email on the 7th, a couple of days before I hear about the Malaysian airplane.  It's a great idea - "Music to descend in an airplane to."

I love it.

I went through a number of takes to get the piece but I'm digging where we ended up.  I'm using the LIFX bulb again and a killer image from Bob Jagendorf on Flickr called Sunset From Airplane

It was only when I was thinking of publishing did I make the connection between the piece and the horrific loss in Malaya.

I'm not a fan of FUD marketing.

I ended up deciding to publish because the music was written specifically for people who were freaked out by turbulence and landing.  I reckon that it does more good in the world than being kept hidden for the wrong reasons.
