I’m listening to a lot of the old development tracks as I rebuild the site and some of them are very cool indeed. I’m really digging this piece – using a combination patch on the Korg Triton called MoviePad it has that whole Sciencey / spacey / expansive feel to it – it works well with an image from NASA!

Writing for the different weddings and workshops had opened a door into a new way of creating themes. 2007 was a development of that approach combined with a growing familiarity with the workings of the Korg Triton. Heath, Wendi and Victoria are all two voice pieces where the piano track is recorded first and the string part recorded on top immediately afterward. Emma is a solo piano piece.

2007 was the year that music2work2 really started to take shape. I was working with a Korg Triton and my recording and mixing chops were getting better. New gear is funny – there is just something about sitting down at a new toy and playing with it – experimenting with what sounds good and what doesn’t. As usual the piano track was played first and then subsequent voices recorded on top – you can hear strings, electric pianos and even some funky frequencies as I got deeper into wave forms – Ooooh!

There are a number of different themes going on in this piece – Heath was a guy I met through the Kelli gig – he was a freelance template developer who also happened to be a musician. We collaborated on a couple of things musically but the tech work would get in the way. I learned a lot from Heath including how to manipulate photoshop and how to freestyle on beat tracks – it was fun while it lasted but we eventually went our separate ways.

There’s a theme that comes in around 17 minutes – it’s called "Andy The Barman" and is a theme that I have promised myself I will develop further. It reflects a particularly bizarre time of my life when I was indeed working a bar in London – strange times but all good grist for the creative mill.

So for the second night in a row I am working up a series of beats using the Triton’s presets. The challenge is not to make the beat track too monotonous.

I’m recording a number of different beats – probably around 5 – using 67 beats per minute as the core tempo (a prime number) – I can blend in tempos at 134 and even 201- which gives me lots of options when it comes to creating the beat track. I would love to work with someone who was passionate about beats – I think that would be a lot of fun.

Had a great night -working at 113 beats per minute – using five different grooves from the Triton and then freestyling on top – I like the way the beginning came out – need to mix the rest…actually…need to sleep…

I am a cat on a hot tin roof – the only solution is to play. I am going to develop existing sessions – starting with Wendi’s G Minor theme. To get into the groove I’m going to play around with a patch on the Triton at 67 beats per minute – the tempo for Wendi’s theme .

I love doing this kind of freestyle – it makes playing fun. I am always on the look out for percussionists and loop makers who want to collaborate.

Wendi’s piece is coming along very nicely. I did do another string pass but it was crap! I might put a clip up here just to see if I can!
