Just as with life – often times you need to get warmed up before you get stuck in; I have found that in order to easily to get into Wendi, I need to get my fingers limber and my head in the right place!

I have this piece of music, based around the Wendi theme that gets me thinking in three voices and helps me transition into the main theme without thinking. Here’s a clip from this morning’s session before everything went to shit, you’ll hear the beginning of the main theme start at 3:15…

I’m getting better at capturing ideas: there’s a waterproof notepad in the shower, one entire wall of the living room is a blackboard, and now of course we have Siri.

Being able to quickly voice record an idea and have it sent to you as a message the next day is brilliant – here are a few while I was developing this track:

“Sure easy menu bar thinking and subdivide employment labor Wolk with the glory and employer”

..I have no idea what this means…

“Stamnes Musician’s offer reason files next”

…I think this has something to do with offering stems – good one – will implement later this year…

“Blog post want to want want to Paul from an astonishing the kids time I want Musicians’s alarm people who couldn’t stand tedious I’m looking skills to people with Nicola movile so Columbus works out to do that the skip.”

…yeah, no idea about this either – but it sounds fascinating…

It’s been a shitty couple of days; sometimes all you can do is take the shit and transform it into something else.

I like this – it has a foreboding about it which is kind of cool as neither the keys or the lower strings ever play the minor third – everything is fifths, fourths, sevenths and ninths. It’s only the top strings that can’t resist hitting the G.

I’m releasing this and everything attached to it.

Still struggling with the piece but working to push on through. This is a variation on the theme from last Friday which I’ve been listening to a lot. It’s helping me dial in the tones and the various relationships between the individual voices.

Of course I like this so much I’m thinking about how to incorporate it into the main theme; as Charlotte says – it is ridiculously sad and I kind of like that…

I don’t know why, but, when I get to the end of a piece I find it incredibly hard to finish. I’ve spent the last month rewriting, tweaking, hating the tone quality and generally being dreadfully unhappy with everything about the Wendi piece.

This is normal – I wish I didn’t go through it but I do. I’m probably another couple of weeks away from publishing but it will come eventually. While I work through the bullshit – every now and again I have to sit down and beat the crap out of my frustration on the keys. This is what it sounds like…

Raw mix from this morning’s session. The string parts are almost there and the keys are pretty much dialed in too. This is using the raw audio from the Roland HP203 which I kinda dig. No balancing and just a little bit of panning. Still not got the parts on the back end – but that should come throughout the week.

With the arrival of the new iPhone 4S, video suddenly becomes a lot easier. I’ll be working out things like lighting, candles, mailchimp T-shirts etc over the next few months, the audio track on this is a little low but you should get the idea. Also not quite sure why YouTube insists on sticking me upside down for the still – odd!

I like the rallentando into a perfect 6 count while I take a drink..awesome!

Took a week off the Wendi development last week to let some ideas sink in and incubate. Started back on it again last night and will be working through it this week.

It’s interesting how some themes suddenly pop up and last night I had a visit from an old friend – The Anam Cara.

Originally written for a wedding I like the fact that it pops up in the middle of Wendi’s theme; makes me smile.
