Instrumental, Piano Driven Background Music
We love listening to music at work, but when we’re working with ideas, words, images or code, particularly when we’re creating something new, we don’t want to get distracted by the story in our favorite song.
Knowing that background noise improves performance; we believe that instrumental music creates the best working environment without occupying your language centers.

Creative Commons License
The music is licensed as Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License. – basically you can use the music to do whatever you want with it so long as:
1/ You let people know you got it from here
2/ You let other people build on your creation in the same way you built on ours
3/ You get our written agreement to sell your creation
We’re actively looking for people to work with – particularly a beats head – most of the music is written to tempo and we’d love to hear what a gear head could do to it.
What we are not saying
Let’s be really clear here. We are not saying that if you buy this music, your whole world will change, work will become a breeze, you’ll get promoted, lose 20 pounds and become Secretary General of the UN (although it could happen!) The site is not intended to offer advice on how you should live your life or make the claim that what is good for us may necessarily be good for you.
What we are saying
Here’s some original music, if you like it, buy it. We like having this on in the background when we are doing things, you might enjoy listening to it that way too. We make no guarantee that our experiences will be replicated by you but we hope that they will, in fact we’re kind of counting on it, but as of January 2010, we have no “official” research about our specific music.
*** Update – September 2011 ***
We’ve started curating a page on how music can have a positive effect on your existence as a human being – and it seems that we were right – music is awesome for you. Still, it doesn’t mean that our music is going to change your life – but the research does reinforce our belief so we’re going to double down on this
Do the reading yourself
We spent many, many hours researching the concept of music2work2, Andrew’s final year research project for his psychology degree studied the effects of sound on human performance. There seems to be an overwhelming amount of evidence that suggests that having music around is good for you, which is one of the reasons we were inspired to build this website. However, don’t take our word for it, if you’re interested in reading more, here’s where to go.
Why music2work2?
Because everybody works at something; could be their day job, their relationship, their disposition, their talent – work is everywhere and this is good stuff to have on when you’re doing it!
The Music Itself
All sessions are presented with a creative commons license that allows the recipient to add to the work so long as they follow a few basic guidelines.
