Can Music Help? The short answer seems to be, Yes! A study from Department of Psychology at Wichita State University on whether background music helps computer based performance addresses this exact issue. Although they used extremes: classical music, punk music and no music, they found that those who were exposed to classical music performed better at a computer based task than the other two groups!

Interestingly enough, another common thread that ran through our "straw poll" of colleagues, was the general belief that having classical or instrumental music playing in the background helped when they really wanted to focus. |
